Paula de Jong
Paula de Jong (1956) is a clinical psychologist, psychotherapist, cognitive behavioural therapist® and senior schema therapist. She has worked for the GGZ (Dutch Association of Mental Health and Addiction Care) since 1980. Since 1988, she has been affiliated with the Parnassia Groep in The Hague as an outpatient therapist. She first gained experience as a cognitive behavioural therapist® treating various types of anxiety and depressive disorders. She went on to specialise further in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), dissociative disorders and personality disorders. She has formed a multidisciplinary team specialised in treating PTSD. Since 2004, after the establishment of PsyQ (part of the Parnassia Groep), she has been manager of the psycho-medical treatment programme Psychotrauma. She has made an important contribution to the development of this care programme in which highly specialised practitioners treat PTSD clients who have suffered for many years from a wide range of both psychological and physical problems. Paula has also spent many years teaching at various RINO institutions in the Netherlands. She has also taught clinical psychologists, psychotherapists and healthcare psychologists, and regularly given workshops and lectures at congresses. See Paula’s CV at Paula de Jong's full CV (in Dutch only).

In addition to her work in The Hague, Paula has also had a group practice in her home town of Amsterdam since 1982. This practice, ‘de Jong & Partners’ changed its name in 2013 to Psychotherapy & Movement. Paula had always dreamed of setting up her own establishment in Amsterdam with a view to carrying out both treatment and research. She is now turning that dream into reality, together with her colleague Mellony van Hemert. Together with Mellony, she feels extremely proud to be setting up a leading establishment in the field of specialist mental healthcare in the Netherlands. It is an establishment where clients can feel at ease and one that you would gladly recommend to friends and family.
Paula favours a direct approach and advocates ‘evidence-based treatment’, in other words treatment that is backed by extensive scientific research, as is the case with cognitive behavioural therapy and schema therapy. Paula also strongly supports the development of innovative treatments. One example of this is the development of the Body Focused Rescripting Protocol, together with psychomotor therapists. See under Research. Furthermore, Paula is strongly in favour of regularly evaluating treatment and adapting the treatment plan it if the client does not experience the desired effect.
